Hosted in August 2009
by Field to Plate
in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Nutrition Education Network
Workshop Focus: Developing kitchen confidence. Creative problem solving around food, recipes and menu. Creative food and menu ideas for limited income families. Thinking outside of the box!
Program Description
A living kitchen experiential workshop focusing on enhancing skill sets, culinary confidence, ideas and resources for working with limited income and/or physically disadvantaged populations of all age groups. Choose from one half day of creative food and nutrition education experiences and tools you can implement immediately. Choose/add on a reality kitchen day during which we use the live kitchen and scenarios to simulate the real food life challenges of the clients you serve. Shop and cook your way out of these challenges through idea generation, problem solving and resource sharing. This is not a culinary workshop, but a food and cooking problem-solving reality workshop.
Goals
- Challenge the realities of the food and nutrition advice you give
- Expand your thinking about the nutrition advice and food/recipe solutions you hand out
- Grow your kitchen confidence and on-the-spot food and recipe solutions
- Fill your food and nutrition solutions box to the brim!
- Share resources, challenges and solutions with fellow professionals
Who Attended
Food & nutrition professionals, culinary professionals, certified health education specialists, health educators, academicians and professionals working in community food/food education programs. Program is not limited to professionals/para-professionals working only with limited income or physically challenged populations, however the case studies and scenarios we use will focus on this population segment.
