Honoring the Age of Dignity: Perspectives from the U.S. and Europe

October 28 - November 3, 2007
Vaison la Romaine, Provence - France

Set in the magnificent cultural and culinary "capital" of France, this gracious Exchange Forum examines how we honor, work with, and nurture senior populations in Europe and the United States.

Through a series of presentations, group discussions, site visits, culinary and cultural experiences, we will compare and contrast how the U.S., France and other European countries nurture their senior populations. We will explore food, nutrition, health and lifestyle programming as well as mental, spiritual and physical approaches to aging with grace. This special forum will also feature visits to independent and assisted living facilities in France, as well as an opportunity to hear from, and talk with, children who are caring for their aging parents.

We round out the experience by adding a culinary dimension to this beautiful learning experience. Through market tours and hands-on culinary experiences,  we will explore how food memories and flavor impact a lifetime of food choices.

About Vaison la Romaine

Vaison la Romaine is a veritable jewel in the Vaucluse region of Provence. This ancient town is situated along the Ouvèze river and is the site of a vast collection of ancient ruins. During the summer, it is alive with music and dance festivals and theater. The two parts of Vaison-la-Romaine are joined by a unique single-arched Roman bridge over the river, which is still in use after some 2000 years.
